La carrera musical de esta artista se difundió a partir del éxito de High School Musical, con el cual alcanzó la fama definitiva y obtuvo importantes logros, como el haber hecho historia en la música al ser la primer cantante femenina en ubicarse en el Billboard Hot 100 con dos canciones al mismo tiempo (Bop to the Top y What I’ve been looking for)
En febrero del 2007 lanzó su primer álbum, titulado Headstrong a través de la distribuidora Warner Brothers. El disco consiguió rápidamente los primeros puestos en los principales charts mundiales, habiendo vendido solo en su primera semana 64.000 copias y llegando al quinto puesto del Billboard Hot 100. [4] . Su primer single, escrito por ‘’J.R. Rotem’’ y ‘’Evan “Kid” Bogart’’ se tituló He Said, She Said y fue seguido por Be Good To Me el cual fue lanzado directamente como video musical para Disney Channel. El tercer single es Not Like That.
